From providing barebones expedition logistics to high-level instruction and guiding to documentary film production. Running Himalayan whitewater expeditions is our roots, our lifestyle and our deep passion.

Over 15 years of expedition kayaking in the Himalaya's has given Chris Jones and Griffon some of the best contacts with the best expedition guides and instructors in the world. We're at the fore front of river explortion in the Himalayas and China and we complete first descents every year. We don't just run gnarly class 5 either. We're equally at home leading experienced kayakers or beginner rafters. We're passionate about sharing our playground!

Meet some of our whitewater expedition guides/instructors

Chris Jones learnt to paddle in Australia but quickly realise there wasn't enough water there to pursue a career as a proffessional paddler. Over the last 10 years he has paddled around the globe but has kept returning to the Himalaya each year. Chris pioneered commercial rafting in Tibet for Tibet Wind Horse Adventure and has paddled over 25 first descents in the region. In 2004 he directed and co-produced the award winning documentary: "Kayaks on the Roof of the World", the story of the first Tibetan kayakers."

Chris splits his time between Tibet and Canada and somehow finds time each year to escape from the office work of managing Griffon to undertake a major expedition in the Himalayas. It seems his life is not complete without at least one major paddling expedition in the planning!

Willie Kern is without a doubt one of the best expedition paddlers in the world. Respected by generations of paddlers and recognized internationally as a voice of conservation, communication and safety on the river. Over the last twenty-four years, Willie has assembled a portfolio of kayak descents covering nearly every corner of the northern hemisphere, from the Americas to Asia and often on first descents of the world's most technically and logistically challenging runs. Willie was a member of the expedition that became the first to run the legendary Yarlung Tsangpo. “Into the Tsangpo Gorge” has become the latest in a series of expedition films for television and video that he has appeared in, including "Liquid off the Throne of Shiva” and the Liquid Lifestyles series.

In addition to becoming one of the foremost expedition paddlers, Willie has also served as a co-cameraman for The Yunnan Great Rivers Expedition and the Discovery Channel production "Adventure Bhutan", and taught with a host of incarnations of accredited experiential and outdoor education projects. Willie has also crafted a means of outreach and advocacy through pointed story telling and public speaking in favor of the protection of cultural and natural river heritage. Willie's down-to-earth, friendly demeanour and quirky sense of humour makes him a great paddling companion on any river trip.
